The Old English Elite Staunton chessmen are by far one the finest examples of Staunton chessmen available. The design is classic vintage Staunton with every element taking its cue from the Victorian era sets that have become legendary. What is most striking is how the shanks are so perfectly curved and nicely pinched in the centre; this, combined with the broad bases, results in the amazing proportion that these pieces exhibit with each element fitting perfectly within the set. The pieces are of course weighted in their bases and exhibit superb balance. The uniformity of the chessmen is outstanding, you can line up all four knights and it's virtually impossible to see any difference between them. In order to achieve this only one knight carver is used to make all the knights. Consequently these chessmen are produced in very limited numbers, in batches of just five sets at a time.
The chessmen are made from the highest grade black ebony and clean grained boxwood. The value of ebony continues to rise as it becomes more and more scarce, making these chessmen an excellent investment opportunity. They have been expertly finished and polished to a natural shine. No lacquer is used to create this amazing finish, it's the hand polishing of the dense hard woods that have created such an immaculate finish, something you won't find in inferior sets. Each set is uniquely numbered and certified as a genuine Regency Chess Company product. These stunning chessmen represent the finest quality available and will sit perfectly upon a 50.80 cm chess board.
